Responsive Web Design

The concept of websites and web apps that can be built once and be available on different mediums is a step forward on keeping the world integrated.

My first experience designing a webpage in college required a lot of time to make it look professional. After hours of work I finally had a design that was functional and presentable. However, when I opened the page on my cellphone I felt that all that work was useless. The experience of seeing my piece of work on the little screen was terrible. We have a similar feeling every time that we open a page that has not been adapted to mobile devices.
The fact is that responsive design saves time for designers. Time, which feels to be always more pushed in a fast paced global economy, is essential for designers that need to deliver their product on a schedule. Also, it shows the efficiency and artistic level that programers have reached, by developing pages and apps that show their function at any size.

Furthermore, I believe responsive design comes in a time that is not only about the emerging technologies, but also their adaptation and widespread. The world nowadays urges for technology that can be affordable and accessible to anyone. Raising and underdeveloped nations are markets that struggle with limited internet access and the popularity of low end smartphones. In that scenario, responsive web design proves to be a way to deliver information on devices that don't have a lot of process power and work on limited web access.
