Responsive Web Design Response

Ethan Marcotte's "Responsive Web Design" was written six years ago, and it's amazing how much things change and stay the same in that time period. The hardware itself has gotten more varied due to the Internet of Things and our ability to access the internet from a wider array of devices. Aside from the usual phones, tablets, and laptops, we also have TVs, game systems, and smartwatches among a list of still-growing platforms. Responsiveness used to only mean changing the website according to the screen width. But after getting more involved in the developer community recently, I've realized that responsiveness is more about "responding to what the user is doing". The part in the article speaking about how architecture has changed to be more responsive itself shows that this isn't just a web-related trend, but also a natural trend as digital is able to serve us more personalized and sensor-gathered information. I feel like all new attempts with technologies will naturally be inclined to gather more feedback from the real world. With web browsers and applications able to grab information (such as GPS location) naturally and through various APIs, it's not hard to imagine the term 'responsive' morphing into something far outside the scope of what we see it as today.
