Medium - Algorithms
This medium post calls attention to the increasing importance of algorithms in society. In the current digital age, a lot of what we experience on the web and the content we see is based off of an algorithm that analyzes data collected on us. For example, Facebook friends that you have more interactions with will show more on your news feed.
This system may bring people with similar interests together, but it also segregates people who have opposing interests and ideas. I think that this is bad because people will be stuck in their own ideals and rarely be exposed to people who think differently from them. It is important for people to hear all sides of an issue and that all opinions be heard. Algorithms on the internet are making individuals more close-minded when I believe that the point of the internet should be to bring people of all types and beliefs together.
