Less is More

Functional Minimalism for Web Design by Nick Babich

A minimalist approach toward web design eliminates unnecessary elements and content in order and essentially highlights the importance of the remaining ones on screen.  Web designers use minimalism to strip away distractions while retaining primary functions essential to the user.  I feel it's important to incorporate clean, uncluttered UI because people are so overwhelmed with content online that they want everything streamlined for them.  It compares similarly to a study I read regarding how the Internet has changed the way we as humans read and interpret information.  The availability of data at our disposal at practically any point has caused us to skim articles now rather than read entire writings.  We crave the important information and disregard the rest.  The same is happening to our attention span and interactions on web pages.  Designers need to make their content available without the need for users to take extra steps to retrieve it.
