Medium Post: Presenting your webwork

A presentation can either make or break anything – especially if it’s a pitch! In Matt article, he shares his experiences and insights on how to present your webwork in a successful manner to a client. When you are designing a website, there are various questions that come to mind. Matt suggests answering those questions during the presentation to the client as well to paint the picture of the website for them and ensure they have a clear vision of it. Another point he makes is to remember to consider scability. He explains, “A common mistake in web design mockups is designing everything to (only) fit into a very perfect layout. Even if you do have all of the final content in-hand before heading into the design phase (big “if” there, no matter how strong your process is), everything should be designed with the ability to scale.

Another tip is to never ask if the client likes the website! Although we hope for the client to love our presentation and website, it’s important to remind them and maybe even respectfully mention in the beginning of the presentation that the website isn’t being created for them – it’s for their customers and/or users.

A few other things to keep in mind during client presentations are of course to smile, rehearse, make eye contact and get excited! Web design is fun – explaining the “why” is important but what really sells your website is the energy you bring!
